Area residents stage third TEA party

About 200 people showed up for the Ramona Area TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party, held in front of the Ramona Post Office on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

All were invited to join in support of fellow Americans who traveled to Washington, D.C., for the National TEA Party.

“We are demonstrating because we are concerned about the role of government and the overspending,” some sign holders said.

“People should be able to decide what they want,” said Paul Pakus, 60. “We are making a difference because we are here, genuinely concerned, and want some form of constitutional measurement.”

Nearby a handful of people from the Ramona Forum held what they called the Ramona Mad Hatters Tea Party, a demonstration in peaceful opposition of the Ramona TEA Party. Most of those sign holders said, “We have to get rid of incompetent politicians and corruption.”

“There is a saying that we all hold some part of the truth, but we have to get away from partisanship, and discuss exactly what the issues are,” said David Patterson of the Ramona Forum.

The Ramona Area TEA Party was the third one staged in Ramona this year.
