The Ramona High School junior varsity football team beat El Capitan High School 22-7 at the Dawg Pound. The JVs are now 2-0 on the season and have yet to punt.

Travis Stevens completed 12 of 16 passes for 156 yards. Jeremiah Jordan was Steven’s favorite target.

Jordan caught four passes for 75 yards and a touchdown. Jordan also kicked a 21-yard field goal. Garlan Marshall, Josh Mahaffey and Paul Loska made key catches in the game. Manuel Appel made a 6-yard TD reception.

Shane Barnes and Tyler Weaver-Villa gained big chunks of yardage behind the blocking of Preston Johnson, Luke Papps, Andrew Lizowski, Brandon Barnum and Nick Heimpel.

The defense dropped the El Cap QB for numerous sacks and losses. Thomas Pacheco, Jacob Sanders, Devin Rhodes and Joe Cohen pressured the Vaquero QB all night.

Coach Bob Schulty had praise for linebackers Derek Harlin, Steve Rothermel, Josh Gallegos and Levi Lotero.

The Bullpups lost to El Cap in a 36-28 shootout. Javier Dominguez had a school record 214 yards in receptions with two touchdowns. Elias Chavez rushed for two TDs and had 105 yards on the ground. Quarterback Hunter McHargue completed 15 passes for 240 yards.

Coach Mike Ernst had praise for the defensive play of Daniel Kemp and Robbie Farren.

Ramona spotted El Cap a 28-6 lead and made a big comeback.

“We made some mistakes but fought back and had a chance to win,” said Ernst. “Our defense made some good adjustments and played very well in the second half.”
