Ramona Soccer League play started this weekend for the Ramona Girls Intra Under 12 Soccer team.

The girls played away on Saturday, Sept. 12, in El Cajon, beating SD United FC 4-3. Ramona Intra came out strong finishing the first half 4-0. Three goals were scored by forward Katherine Lorentz and one by center mid-forward Daniela Charbonneau.

Defensive team members Taylor Stacy (goalie), Sydney Marin, Megan Vandervort, Ciara Lucas and Danielle Vizcarra were key in keeping the ball out of the Ramona territory, coaches agreed.

“The offensive team did an excellent job using their passing skills and crossing the ball to create opportunities to score,” said Coach Tom Charbonneau.

SD United came back the second half scoring three goals, but Ramona kept the pressure on, ending the game for the Ramona win.

On Sunday, Sept. 13, the girls played Hotspurs USA in Ramona, winning 9-0. Three goals were made by mid-fielder Shaylee Lessler, two by center mid-forward Daniela Charbonneau, one by center mid-fielder Karli Njaa, one by mid-fielder Taylor Stacy, one by mid-fielder Natalie Buttle, and a header by mid-fielder Natalie Seol.

Ramona immediately put the pressure on and were aggressive as soon as the whistle blew.

“The girls had a chance to keep the ball in control using their skill to win the ball and make smart passes.” said the coaches. “We also had the opportunity to give the girls exposure to different positions during game time which worked to our advantage.”

The girls play two away games Sept. 19 and 20.
