Palomar volunteers plan 32nd annual fundraiser

Share

Palomar Mountain Volunteer Fire Department hosts its 32nd annual Barbecue Fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 5, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the fire station.

Organizers promise family fun under the huge oak and cedar trees, with all proceeds benefiting the volunteer department. This year’s goal is to install bunkhouse facilities for the firefighters for 24 hour emergency services coverage during fire season.

Picnic-style food and beverages will be for sale. Booths include a beer and wine garden, apple pie, fire department memorabilia, dunk tank (watch the fire chief get dunked!), crafts, opportunity drawing tickets, Kid’s Korner activity booth, safety demonstrations by CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) and community services information.

Opportunity drawing tickets are on sale at the Palomar Mountain Post Office and the General Store for 10 tickets for $20. Last year all 3,000 tickets were sold, so don’t put off buying tickets. The grand prize is two tickets on JetBlue Airways, second prize is a $500 gift certificate from Powerland Equipment in Valley Center, and third prize is a Live It Up At Pala casino package.

Contact Event Chair Tricia Lucia to order tickets or to donate goods or services: ladibug309@aol.com.

Drawing for the prizes will be held at 4 p.m. Winners do not need to be present to win.

Other items donated by local vendors will be available. They include gift certificates to Boot World, K-1 Speed, theaters, Fat Ivor’s, El Rey’s Mexican Restaurant, Lazy H Restaurant, Viejas Casino and San Diego Zoo/Wild Animal Park, and gift certificates for Los Angeles Dodger’s memorabilia, three-hour sailboat cruise on San Diego Bay, yoga classes, spa treatments, firefighter T-shirts, hats, frames, FoxFury personal lighting equipment, Ferrell Gas, gift baskets and more.

Live auction Items include a truckload of recycled Class II base donated by the George W. Weir family of Escondido Sand & Gravel & Escondido Asphalt and delivered to Palomar Mountain. The value of the donation is $700.

Also, the 2nd Annual Firefighter Challenge featuring Palomar Mountain firefighters competing against firefighters from neighboring volunteer fire departments will be held. Last year’s Beer Keg Water War was a huge hit with the crowd. This year more events are planned.
