Guild hosts art demonstration

Share

Ramona Art Guild will host artist and photographer Linda Doll at its meeting in the Ramona Library, 1406 Montecito Road, at 7 p.m. on Nov. 18.

Doll is a painter, digital photographer, graphic artist, instructor and juror of art contests. She has taught in seven countries and has served on several art support groups. Her paintings and drawings are included in many books and on several magazine covers.

People and still-life subjects that hint at the person just outside the picture plane are Doll’s favorite painting subjects. She portrays them without flattery or glamor in an aura of quietude, stressing their dignity and individuality. She combines areas of flat color with highly skilled composition and design to create an attitude of introspection when depicting her subjects.Described as a good-humored, energetic instructor, Doll stresses the importance of making personal design decisions at each stage of the painting. She has developed a unique and effective teaching style that stimulates optimism, enthusiasm, confidence and creative excitement in her students. Her painting classes are designed to inspire beginners and to challenge advanced students.

She has designed a grid that assists the artist from the thumbnail or sketch to completed drawing quickly and accurately. According to Doll, sketching and drawing are a building process and many artists prefer the freedom to sketch without concern for size or placement. The study is created, cropped, then scaled to the painting size.

Art guild demonstrations are held on the third Wednesday of the month and are open to the public. For more information, call Wilma Owens, guild president, at 760-789-2810.
