Tennis beats Patriots, loses to San Marcos

Ramona High School’s girls tennis team played well in a loss to San Marcos and bounced back to beat Orange Glen in Valley League action.

The Lady Dawgs are now 7-8 on the season and are 6-6 in league play.

Ramona lost to San Marcos at Riviera Oaks Resort and Racquet Club 11-7. In singles action, Rebeca Romero went 0-6, 4-6 and 4-6. Dayna Lake won one set with scores of 0-6, 1-6 and 6-0. Jennica Castillo went 0-6, 0-6 and 6-4.

Number one doubles team Katie Hoffman and Ashley Shields won three sets with scores of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0.

Rachel Williams and Sami Marsch won one team point with scores of 2-6, 6-4 and 4-6.

Rachel Vaca and Andrea Briseno went 1-6, lost a tie-breaker 6-7 (5-7) and won a set with a score of 6-4.

Ramona beat Orange Glen 18-0. Romero won a set with a score of 6-0. Amy Jordan substituted for Romero and turned in two wins with identical scores of 6-0.

Lake won three sets with perfect scores of 6-0.

Castillo rounded out the singles by earning three team points, recording scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1.

In doubles play Shields teamed up with a new doubles partner and the results were good. Shields and Vaca put up scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0 to set the tone for the doubles action. Williams and Marsch won a tough set with a score of 7-5 and then put scores of 6-0 and 6-0 to win three sets.

Briseno and Jordan McWhorter also took three team points with scores of 6-3, 6-0 and 6-0.

The Lady Dawgs have a bye and will prepare for the team CIF playoffs. The following week they will compete in the Valley League Individual Tourney in hopes of qualifying players for the CIF Individual tournament at Barnes Center.
