Midget Bulldawgs beat Temecula Bruins

Playing at Bulldawg Stadium, the Ramona Pop Warner Midget Bulldawgs made it two wins in a row by beating the Temecula Bruins 28-0 on Saturday.

The Bulldawg defense set the tone for the game by giving the Bruins no room to maneuver. Excellent defensive end play of Nathan Cherek, Daniel Van Tol and JT Smith closed all outside runs while the interior line of Trae Rodriguez, Andrew Houry, Andrew Dougans and Daniel Torres stopped up the middle.

The defense only gave up a few first downs on their way to pitching shutout football.

“I was really impressed with our defensive backs,” said Coach Marshal Thrasher.

The Bruins offense stayed mostly to the ground, but, when they did pass, balls were knocked down before they could reach their intended target.

“Tanner Williams, Nathan Feghal, Grant Choy and Jeremy Drews ran the routes better than the Bruins receivers,” added Thrasher.

On the offensive side of the ball, the ground game moved the ball with ease. Running back Brenden Tustison carried the load for the Bulldawgs, scoring twice and running over the Bruins.

“We usually pound the ball inside with Tustison and sweep with Cherek, but in this game Tustison was in the zone,” stated Head Coach Matthew Lisowski.

The Bulldawg running backs saw huge holes open up led by fullbacks Van Tol and Noah Cappadocia and offensive tackles Dougans, Josh Hale, Jacob Grybow and Dallas Domnitz. Cherek came alive on special teams, providing a second half opening 65-yard kickoff return and blocking a Bruins punt, setting up another Bulldawg touchdown.

The Bulldawgs’ final score came halfway through the third quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run by full back JT Smith.

The Bulldawgs’ next game is at home against the Murrieta Nighthawks on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 1 p.m.
