Tennis heads into final round

Coach Doug Failla’s varsity tennis team beat Oceanside and lost to Mt. Carmel in Valley League play. The Lady Bulldogs are now 6-7 on the year and are 5-5 in the Valley League.

Ramona turned in a perfect score against Oceanside High School, beating the Pirates 18-0. Rebeca Romero won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0 from her spot as the number one singles player. Jennica Castillo was also dominant as she only lost one game going 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0. Amy Jordan also won three team points with scores of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-1.

All three doubles teams breezed through the match without surrendering a game to the Pirates. Ashley Shields and Rachel Vaca, Rachel Williams and Sami Marsch, and Andrea Briseno and Jordan McWhorter all turned in perfect 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0 scores.

The Lady Dawgs also played well in their 13-5 loss to Mt. Carmel. The Sundevils are 10-1 overall and are a perfect 9-0 in the Valley League.

In doubles action, Katie Hoffman and Shields won two sets by going 4-6, 7-5 and 6-3. Rebeca Romero and Dayna Lake went 0-6 and 3-6. Romero then teamed up with Williams to win a set with a score of 7-5. Marsch and Vaca went 2-6, 7-6 and 3-6.

Castillo picked up a team point playing number one singles by going 0-6, 6-0 and 0-6. Andrea Briseno went 0-6,1-6 and 0-6. Jordan went 0-6, 0-6 and 0-6.

The Lady Dawgs are going into the final round of league play and getting ready for league and CIF individual and team tournaments.
