Congregational Church spearheads CROP Walk

Share

First Congregational Church congregants encourage the community to join them for the 2009 CROP (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) Hunger Walk on Sunday, Oct. 25.

The annual event has been held for nearly 20 years in October to raise money for those in need in the community and world. The walk will begin at 1 p.m. in Collier Park on E Street between Sixth and Seventh streets.

“We walk because they walk” is a saying attributed to the CROP Walk, since millions of people around the world walk every day for basics such as water, food and shelter. Sponsored by the Church World Service, walkers raise money by seeking pledges from family, friends and others.

People of different faiths, cultures and ages participate in the walk to raise awareness and money. About 25 percent of the money raised will go to the Ramona Food and Clothes Closet to help area residents in need, with the rest going to international projects.

For pledge sheets and more information, call Jerry Cannon at 760-789-5197 or go online to www.churchworldservice.org.
