RHS tennis beats Valley Center, drops Westview match

Ramona went 1-1 in Valley League action last week in tennis.

The Lady Bulldogs beat Valley Center and lost to Westview. The Lady Dawgs are now 5-6 on the year and are 4-4 league action.

Coach Doug Failla’s Lady Bulldogs won a close Valley League match by beating Valley Center 10-8 on the road at Adams Park in Valley Center.

The doubles team delivered nine of the team points by winning all nine sets in the match. The number one doubles team of Ashley Shields and Katie Hoffman set the pace by winning every game going 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0.

Sami Marsch and Rachel Williams won one set with a score of 6-0. Williams lost a bout with the flu bug and Jordan McWhorter then teamed with Marsch and won two sets, going 6-2 and 6-4.

“It was a very exciting match,” said Failla. “We were without Dayna Lake, and then Rachel (Williams) got sick. Everybody stepped up and did a fantastic job. Rebeca Romero played their number one and two singles players very tough. It is the best that we have done against their top two players. I was very pleased with her performance.”

Romero went 4-6, 5-7 and 6-3 and her play ensured the win for Ramona. Jennica Castillo went 2-6, 1-6 and 4-6. Amy Jordan went 0-6, 1-6 and 2-6.

The Lady Dawgs lost to Westview 18-0. The Wolverines are 6-1 in the Valley League, a game behind Mt. Carmel, which is 7-0.

In singles action Romero went 2-6, 1-6 and 3-6. Jordan turned in scores of 0-6 and 0-6. Lake went 0-6. Castillo went 1-6, 0-6 and 0-6.

In doubles action Hoffman and Shields went 3-6 and 0-6. McWhorter and Shields went 6-7 (3-7). Williams and Marsch went 0-6, 3-6 and 3-6. Rachel Vaca and Andrea Briseno went 0-6, 2-6 and 3-6.
