Coach John Rathbun’s Ramona High School varsity golfers had their best week of competition of the season. The Lady Dawgs beat Valley Center and lost a heartbreaker on the road to Westview High School in Valley League play.

The Ramona team took advantage of the friendly confines of San Vicente Golf Resort and beat Valley Center 248-327 in a Valley League match.

Kammy Fitting and Emily Vandervort shared medalist honors as they both posted scores of 48. Ally Harvey fired a 49 and was just one stroke off the pace. Kelsey Perry shot 50, and Kelsie Domnitz shot 53.

Ramona’s first five golfers beat the number one Jaguar golfer, Jessica Thomas, who shot 54. Kia Turner shot a 62 for Ramona, beating three Valley Center players. Every Lady Bulldog beat her counterpart in head-to-head play.

The Lady Dawgs lost on the road at Rancho Bernardo Country Club 261-263. Harvey tied for medalist honors with Ariella Acosta of Westview. Both golfers fired a 47 on the par 35 front nine.

Vandervort shot a 53 her counterpart shot a 51. Perry and Catie Sundberg each turned in scores of 54. Westview’s number three and number four golfers shot 52 and 55.

Domnitz recorded a score of 55 to her counterpart’s 56. Ashley Ramirez shot a 61, which was not factored into the score.

Vandervort has been playing well in recent weeks and has earned two medalist honors.

“I have been working very hard in practice and trying to stay focused in the matches,” she said. “We start practice at the range every day and then apply what we worked on at the range in a practice round. It helps having a golf professional as a coach. We are improving and having fun.”

“We lost two matches to Westview that we could have won,” said Rathbun. “The girls are improving and are a pleasure to coach.”
