School board hearing addresses adequacy of learning materials

Share

Ramona Unified School District will hold a public hearing two weeks from today to assure that each student in the district has sufficient textbooks and instructional materials.

The hearing will be held during the school board meeting that will start at 7 p.m. Oct. 15 in the Wilson Administrative Center at 720 Ninth St. Community members are welcome.

A lawsuit filed nine years ago by then San Francisco middle school student Eliezer Williams and other California students resulted in the Williams settlement of Aug. 13, 2004, in which the state acknowledged its responsibility to ensure quality and equal education to all California students.

According to the settlement, school districts receiving state money for instructional materials must hold an annual sufficiency hearing during the first eight weeks of the school year.

The intent of the hearing is to assure, among other things, that all instructional materials are consistent with state-adopted content standards and curriculum.
