Man to stand trial for molestation charge

A judge on Friday set a preliminary hearing for Jan. 4 for a Ramona man who is accused of four counts of committing lewd acts with a 15-year-old Ramona girl on Oct. 31.

David Eric Letzring, 49, has pleaded innocent to all charges. He was arrested by sheriff’s deputies on Nov. 5. A prosecutor said Friday he could not say much about the case, and Letzring’s attorney could not be reached for comment.

The charges say the molestation happened on Oct. 31. She reportedly told a school official about the alleged molestation, and the sheriff’s department was then contacted.

Letzring waived his right to have a speedy hearing, and El Cajon Superior Court Judge Charles Ervin set the trial for Jan. 4. Cases are often delayed until after the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays. The suspect will be in court on Dec. 18 for a status conference on his case.

Letzring has a prior criminal record for two burglaries, said Deputy District Attorney Ben Tao. He remains in the Vista Detention Facility.
