Tennis loses close match with Falcons

The fourth seeded Lady Bulldog tennis team lost to Scripps Ranch in the quarterfinals of the Division II CIF San Diego Section Playoffs.

The Lady Dawgs lost to the Falcons in a close match by a score of 10-8.

Ramona got stellar play out of its number one doubles team Katie Hoffman and Ashley Shields. The seniors won all three sets to take three team points with scores of 6-4, 6-2 and 6-0.

Rachel Williams and Sami Marsch, also seniors, went 1-6, 4-6 and 6-2. Rachel Vaca and Andrea Briseno turned in scores of 1-6, 2-6 and 6-4.

The difference in the match was the stellar play of the Falcons’ number one singles player, Marissa Cohen, who went 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0 against the Lady Dawgs.

Rebeca Romero played in the number one singles spot for Ramona and won two sets and two team points with scores of 0-6, 6-4 and 6-3. Dayna Lake went 0-6, 0-6 and 6-2. Jennica Castillo went 0-6, 1-6 and 2-6.

Scripps Ranch lost to Valley League champion Mt. Carmel in the semifinals 13-5. The Mount won the CIF title in an all Valley League championship match by beating Westview. Torrey Pines won the Division title.

Mt. Carmel, Westview and Torrey Pines will be in the Palomar League next year with the Lady Bulldogs.
