Groundbreaking for new library is Nov. 16

Groundbreaking Day for Ramona’s new library will be on Monday, Nov. 16, at the site of the new ibrary on the corner of Main and 13th streets at 10 a.m. All will be there—the groundbreaking crews, including 2nd District Supervisor Dianne Jacob and San Diego County Library Director Jose A. Aponte, plus planners and supervisors, friends and more.

Come join in the celebration of this long-awaited special occasion.

Ramona Library offers these programs in the month of November for all ages. Among them are:

Youth

Preschool Storytime:

Come each Wednesday at 11 a.m. for a fun story hour with crafts. First Wednesday, Nov. 4, is bilingual English/Spanish.

Bilingual Spanish/English Storytime:

Enjoy on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5 p.m.

Grandparents and Books:

Join us for that warm childhood treat of having a grandparent read aloud from a children’s favorite book on Thursdays at 11 a.m.

Homework Club:

Homework center/tutoring is available Mondays through Thursdays from 4 to 5 p.m.

Teens

Girl Scouts:

Volunteer to help with projects at the library on Tuesdays at 6 p.m.

Video Game Arcade:

(Grades 6 to 12) Play popular games on gaming consoles at 1 p.m. the second and fourth Saturdays, Nov. 14 and 28.

Families

Family Crafts:

Creative, fun projects for children and their caretakers on Fridays at 3:30 p.m.

Edible Book Contest:

Submit an “edible book” where the only rules are—it must be edible and related to a book—on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 2 p.m.

Film, In Honor of World War II Vets: Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 6 p.m.

Adults

Adult Literacy Tutoring (ESL):

Instructions in reading and writing in English. Call 738-2434 for an appointment.

• Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

• Thursdays at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Bilingual Spanish Computer Helpers:

Instruction for beginners on Thursdays at 6 p.m. Call 738-2434 for an appointment.

Friends of the Ramona Library

The Friends group will have its fall meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 18. President Elyse Kuhn will convene the meeting at 1 p.m. All board members are requested to be present. Otherwise, notify the president.

Friends Book Sale will be on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Community Room. Come browse through the voluminous fiction and nonfiction of gently used hardbacks ($1) and paperbacks (25 cents) in reference, bios and how-to’s, cookbooks and children’s books, to name a few, plus videos and CDs. A Collector’s Table offers books of special interest, along with first editions starting at $5. Don’t miss these select bargains.

As we count the many blessings of the Ramona Library, it will be closed in celebration of Thanksgiving Day on Thursday, Nov. 26, and Friday, Nov. 27. It will open on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.

Ramona Library is in the San Diego County Complex at 1406 Montecito Road (parking off 16th Street). The library is open at 9:30 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays until 6 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays until 8 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays until 5 p.m.
