The Ramona Bulldogs had a good week on the courts. The tennis Dawgs made up a league match at Riviera Oaks by beating Orange Glen and then went on the road to beat the Patriots.
Ramona lost a tough match to San Marcos in between the Orange Glen wins and are now 7-10 overall and are 3-4 in the Valley League.
“We played well all week. We really played well against San Marcos,” said senior Garrett Flynn. “We played better than expected.”
The Bulldogs started their home match against Orange Glen with 3 points. The Patriots defaulted their number three singles position.
Josh Leiber went 4-6, 4-6 and def. Cameron Ruland went 7-5, 6-0 and def. Chris Bowersox went 4-6, 6-7 (7-5) and def.
In doubles action, Ramona swept the Patriots by picking up all nine sets. Derek Streeter and Tyler Davidson manned the number spot and went 6-3, 6-1 and 6-1. John Shupe and Tyler McDonald took three points with scores of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0.
Garrett Flynn and Alejandro Cervantes won a tie-breaker and then cruised to two more wins by going 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 and 6-1.
The Dawgs lost a close match to San Marcos at Riviera Oaks 10-8. Leiber went 1-6, 6-0 and 6-1 from his spot as the number one singles player. Ruland posted scores of 3-6, 4-6 and 7-5. Davidson went 3-6, 6-1 and 3-6.
The number one doubles team, Streeter and Randol, won two sets going 3-6, 6-4 and 6-3. Shupe and McDonald contributed scores of 6-0, 5-7 and 2-6. Cervantes and Flynn went 2-6, 1-6 and 6-3.
Ramona finished the week by beating Orange Glen on the road 16-2.
The Ramona singles players had a great day winning all nine team points. Leiber manned the number one spot and went 6-3, 6-3 and 6-0. Ruland had a near perfect outing as he won all 18 games going 6-0,6-0 and 6-0. Cervantes won three sets with scores of 6-0, 6-3 and 6-3.
Shupe and McDonald picked up three team points by winning three sets with scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 7-5. Streeter and Randol went 6-1, 6-0 and 2-6. Bowersox and Stout went 6-1, 6-0 and 1-6.
