Jim Thompson, friend of Ramona Rodeo

A three-time South Dakota Sportscaster of the Year, Jim Thompson returns to the Ramona Rodeo as announcer.

Thompson has been selected to announce every major rodeo finals in the country: PRCA National Finals, Circuit Finals, Indian Nationals Finals and Senior Pro. He started announcing rodeos in 1976, leaving radio management in 1988 to become a full-time rodeo announcer.

He retired from rodeo announcing in 2000, although he continues to fill in occasionally for friends. A friend of the late Casey Tibbs and members of the Ramona Outdoor Community Center and the Ramona Rodeo Committee, he was inducted into the Casey Tibbs Rodeo Hall of Fame in 1998.

Called a great friend to cowboy poetry, Thompson has earned many rodeo honors. He is a life member of the PRCA and he writes a weekly rodeo column and delivers a daily rodeo show, both called On the Road Again.
