Girls softball splits games

The Lady Bulldog softball team went on the road and split in Valley League action. The Lady Dawgs beat Orange Glen and lost to Mt. Carmel.

Ramona is now 6-10 on the year and 4-8 in league play.

The Lady Bulldogs blasted 12 hits as they beat Oceanside High School on the road 8-0. Freshman Ally Harvey picked up her second Valley League win as she went the distance giving up one run while scattering four hits. She fanned seven Pirates as her defense committed no errors.

Allie Ferguson led the offense attack by posting a 3-for-5 outing. Courtney Fick went 2-for-4 and called an excellent game behind the plate. KK Melgoza had a 2-for-5 outing, and Hillary Roloff was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Shortstop Lexi Slater picked up her first round-tripper as she went 2-for-4 with a home run.

Stephanie Kiesel’s bat remained hot as she stroked a triple in a 1-for-3 effort.

Ramona dropped an 11-4 decision to league leading Mt. Carmel on the road. The Sundevils are pounding the ball and are undefeated in league play.

Marti Sanchez got her first start after coming off of the disabled list and went two thirds innings of an inning and took the loss. She gave up four runs on five hits. Three of the runs were earned.

Kellsie Domnitz went the final five-and-a-third innings in the circle. She gave up seven runs, six earned, on 14 hits.

The Sundevil staff limited the Lady Bulldogs to four hits. Kiesel blasted her first home run of the season. It was a two-run shot. Kiesel had one hit in three trips.

Slater was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Allie Ferguson and Hillary Roloff also had 1-for-3 outings.

“We actually put the ball in play and had some good at bats,” said Coach Robin Brainard. “We were in a position to score more runs but left some runners. Their pitcher had trouble with her control and we had some good at bats.

“Mt. Carmel is the class of our league and they are hitting the ball very well. They hit shots. Losing to them is no disgrace.”
