Tennis team drops game on the road

The Ramona Bulldog tennis team lost to Valley Center on the road 13-5 in the league opener.

Ramona’s doubles teams won four sets. John Shupe and Tyler McDonald won two team points by posting scores of 6-7, 6-3 and 6-0. John Randol and Derek Streeter went 4-6, 2-6 and 6-3. Alejandro Cervantes and Garrett Flynn went 1-6, 6-7 and 6-3.

In singles action, Josh Leiber went 2-6, 3-6 and 7-5. Tyler Davidson turned in scores of 4-6, 3-6 and 4-6. Cameron Ruland went 3-6, 4-6 and 1-6.

The Bulldogs lost to Westview at Riviera Oaks Resort 13-5. Coach Doug Failla moved Leiber from singles to team him up with Randol as the number one doubles team. Leiber and Randol played well together and won three sets by going 6-2, 7-6 and 6-1. In the tie breaker, Leiber and Randol had to play for 16 points before winning 9-7. Shupe and McDonald went 3-6, 6-7 (7-9) and 5-7. Streeter and Flynn went 1-6, 3-6 and 1-6.

Ruland took the spot at number one singles and went 1-6, 0-6 and 6-4. Davidson went 0-6, 0-6 and 1-6. Cervantes went 0-6, 0-6 and 2-6.

The Bulldogs bounced back to beat the Oceanside Pirates 17-1 in a Valley League match.

Ruland played number one singles and turned in scores of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-1. Davidson went 6-3, 6-3 and 6-0. Streeter recorded scores of 4-6, 6-2 and 6-0.

The doubles teams won all nine team points. Leiber and Randol went an impressive 6-0, 6-2 and 6-2. Shupe and McDonald dominated by going 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1. ACervantes and Flynn won three sets by recording scores of 7-5, 6-0 and 6-1.

“We have worked very hard and we have improved. Getting our first Valley League match was a team effort,” stated Coach Doug Failla.
