Brian Orr ends his high school wrestling career at state meet

Brian Orr finished his wrestling career where every wrestler in the state of California dreams of ending their career, in Bakersfield’s Rabobank Arena at the CIF State Tournament, also known as The State Meet.      Orr earned the honor by finishing third in the Masters Meet in San Diego.

He pinned Jessen Cole of Chico High School in 1:25 in the second round of the championship bracket, received a bye in the first round, and then lost to Nick Corona of Hanford West High School in the third round of the championship bracket by a 9-6 decision.

“It was a tough match and Brian lost to a good wrestler,” said Coach Steve Koch.

Later in the competition, Orr won an elimination match in the third round of the consolation bracket. He beat Weston Hawkins of Edison High School 10-5.

Orr was eliminated by Ryan Loder of Granite Bay High School in the fourth round of the consolation bracket.

“Brian had a great year and ended up in the final 16 in the state,” said Koch. “Had he won his final match, he would have made it to the medal rounds and the second day of the state meet.

“We will not only miss Brian as a wrestler. Our program will miss his leadership and work ethic. Brian was an excellent role model for all of the wrestlers in our program.”
