Tennis beats Vista for first win of season

The Bulldog tennis team picked up its first win of the season by beating Vista and lost to a powerful La Costa Canyon team. The Dawgs are now 1-2 in pre-league action.

Ramona and Vista battled to a 9-9 tie in sets, but Ramona got the victory because the Bulldogs won 85 games to Vista’s 80.

The singles players won seven games. Josh Leiber won three team points as the Bulldog’s number one singles player. Leiber went 6-2, 6-0 and 6-0.

Tyler Davidson took two sets by going 4-6, 75 and 6-3. Cameron Ruland scored two points going 1-6, 6-4 and 6-1.

John Shupe and Tyler McDonald took a point by going 7-5, 6-7 and 4-6. Garrett Flynn and Liam Swan went 2-6, 0-6 and 6-3. Derek Streeter and Alejandro Cervantes went 5-7, 2-6 and 5-7.

The Bulldogs lost to La Costa Canyon 16-2. Leiber scored one team point by going 1-6, 6-0 and lost a tie breaker 6-7 (3-7). Davidson went 0-6, 4-6 and 0-6. Ruland picked up Ramona’s second team point by going 1-6, 6-4 and 3-6.

In doubles action, Streeter and John Randol went 1-6, 1-6 and 1-6, Shupe and McDonald recorded scores of 3-6, 1-6 and 5-7. Alejandro Cervantes and Garrett Flynn went 1-6, 0-6 and 0-6.

Junior varsity

The junior varsity beat Vista 13-5. Garrett Hatch and Erik Brown each won three sets in singles action. Colton Minor won two sets.

Travis Stout and Chris Bowersox won three sets in doubles action. Ted Gallagher and Andrew won one set. Carl Highley and Nicholas Brierton also won a team point in the match.

The junior varsity lost to La Costa Canyon 17-1. Chris Bowersox and Erik Brown picked up the only team point by going 6-4, 5-7 and 1-6.
