The Ramona lacrosse program earned its first win in school history by beating Lincoln High School 7-1 in a junior varsity contest before an enthusiastic crowd in the Dawg House.

“Lacrosse is now my favorite sport,” stated super fan Steve Koch.

“Lacrosse is as exciting as soccer,” proclaimed Tom Jamison.

“The fans were surprisingly knowledgeable and very enthusiastic,” said Coach Jim Bliss.

Center Stephanie Destafano led the attack. Lefty Nicloe Darrough scored two goals and sharpshooter Daniela Nunez also scored twice. Point Katie Cobian anchored the defense with help from Kaila Michitsch and Marisa Ybarra.

Ybarra made the play of the day by going end-to-end from her defensive position to score a shoulder-high scorcher on the Hornet goalkeeper. Samy Landgrove and Tiffany Lee rounded out the scoring.

Ramona goalkeeper Courtney Robinson made 22 saves, blocking several shots from point blank range.

“All in all, it was a great start for Ramona’s ‘chicks with sticks,’” said Bliss.
