Ramona High School senior Shelby Bush closed out her high school soccer career with first-team Valley League honors.

The Bulldog girls received a total of five all-league recognitions during the Valley League coaches meeting Feb. 23. Honorable mention recognition was given to senior Naomi Scodellaro, juniors Silvia Villegas and Erika Stinchcomb, and freshman Alexa Hogan.

“Wonderful job from all the girls,” Coach George Garcia said of obtaining five all-league recognitions. “They did an awesome job.”

The Bulldogs concluded the 2008-09 season with a Valley League record of 3-8-1, which was worth sixth place in the league standings, and an overall season record of 4-14-2.

“I think we played better than our standings showed,” Garcia said.

Bush started the season as a forward and was later moved to midfield.

“She makes us stronger there,” Garcia said of the move to midfield. “She knows what she’s doing on the field.”

Bush was also a team captain.

“It didn’t show on the field, but I think she did a good job as a captain,” Garcia said. “She’s a real good player and she’s overall a really nice person.”

The Valley League recognition was the third for Bush as a soccer player. She earned second-team honors for the 2006-07 season as a sophomore, and her junior year saw her selected to the Valley League’s first team. Bush also earned honorable mention all-league distinction for the Fall 2008 volleyball season.

Scodellaro and Villegas began the soccer season as midfielders and were both moved to forward to capitalize on their shooting skills. Stinchcomb and Hogan are defenders.
