Six Bulldogs make boys soccer all-league

The Valley League boys soccer coaches’ meeting Feb. 23 saw six Ramona High School players receive all-league recognition.

Trevor Adelman and Chris Huber were given second-team Valley League honors while honorable mention accolades went to Jesse Cappadocia, Gerry Magana, Michael Quilo, and John Randol.

“I was disappointed,” said Coach Michael Jordan. “We should have had more.”

Ramona finished the 2008-09 season with a 6-14-1 overall record, including a 3-9 Valley League mark placing the Bulldogs fifth among the league’s seven teams. The Bulldogs’ position in the league standings limited their all-league recognition.

Huber and Quilo are forwards, Magana and Randol are midfielders, and Adelman and Cappadocia are defenders.

“Pretty good balance,” Jordan said.

Adelman is a senior.

“He should have been on first team,” Jordan said.

While the Valley League coaches were unable to accommodate first-team recognition for Adelman, the other league coaches spoke about his ability to win balls in the air.

“All the coaches around me knew exactly who he was,” Jordan said. “That says something, when you have earned the respect of your opposing coaches.”

Huber is a junior.

“Consistently he was always a threat to score goals ... just was a real contributor on the offensive side,” Jordan said. “I have really high expectations for Chris next year.”

Cappadocia, Magana and Randol are seniors. Quilo, like Huber, is a junior.

“It’s a foundation to build on,” Jordan said of having two all-league players slated to return for the 2009-10 season.
