Concert season ends with Celtic band

Share

Ramona Concert Association’s final concert for this Season will be the Highland Way Celtic band on March 21, four days after St. Patrick’s Day. Irish and Scottish melodies will celebrate the band members’ Celtic heritage.

From his native homeland, Scotland, Brian Caldwell of Glasgow leads Highland Way on a musical journey through traditional and modern Celtic melodies. Joining Caldwell on guitar, bodhran and vocals are Heloise Love, Paul Graham Castellanos on fiddle, mandolin and varied strings, and Richard Gordon Heinz on bass and vocals.

Rousing songs and haunting ballads blend with instrumental medleys and touches of whimsy in performances featuring traditional Celtic music from Scotland and Ireland, with some added original and contemporary Celtic melodies.

Joining the band will be Clennie Foster, a champion-level Irish dancer from Ramona High School. Clennie has placed in many competitions nationwide including earning first place at the Houston, Texas, New Year’s competition in 2008.

Charismatic lead vocalist Caldwell is known for his energetic and driving rhythm guitar and his ability to charm any crowd. Heinz, arranger, vocalist and instrumentalist, is the band’s musical foundation.

Castellanos, master of an array of stringed instruments, adds a vibrant cross section of sound from animated Celtic fiddle to classical guitar. Completing the band is Love, a gifted solo artist whose angelic lead vocals and sultry harmonies round out this mix of musical talent.

The concert will be held in the Charles Nunn Performing Arts Center on the campus of Olive Peirce Middle School, 1521 Hanson Lane. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the concerts will begin at 7:30 p.m.

For those without concert memberships, single tickets may be purchased at the door for $15 for adults and $5 for children.

Concert-goers may purchase their 2009-10 season memberships at the March 21 concert night for $25 for adults, $55 for families and $10 for students.

In keeping with the concert association’s tradition, those buying a single ticket that night may choose to join for the next season instead and receive all five concerts for the season price.
