Adelman, Corbett earn CIF all-division honors

Two members of Ramona High School’s boys volleyball team earned all-CIF Division II honors.

Senior libero Trevor Adelman earned a berth on the Division II first team and senior outside hitter Stuart Corbett was selected to the Division II second team.

“It was nice to get a couple of guys to represent Ramona,” said Coach Jeff Klauda. “Getting two guys on there, one on first team, one on second team, is pretty darn good.”

Ramona’s season ended with a five-game loss to Scripps Ranch in the CIF Division II quarterfinals.

Despite ending their season one round lower than semifinalists Scripps Ranch and Westview, Ramona’s two all-division selections matched the number the Falcons and the Wolverines each received.

“It says something about the quality of the kids in this program,” Klauda said.

Adelman was called up from the junior varsity as a freshman and has been Ramona’s starting libero for the past three years.

“I didn’t have to fight,” Klauda said of the other Division II coaches choosing Adelman for the first team. “Usually the other coaches bring him up before I have to.”

In 2008, when Ramona was in Division III, Adelman also earned all-division first team distinction. He earned honorable mention Valley League recognition as a sophomore and was selected to the all-league first team for 2008 as well as this year.

Adelman is leaning towards attending the University of California, Santa Barbara and may try to make the men’s volleyball team as a walk-on.

The all-division accolades are the first for Corbett. Last year Corbett earned second-team league honors as a middle blocker and this year he earned second-team Valley League recognition as an outside hitter.

Corbett was a starting middle blocker both as a sophomore and as a junior before making the transition to outside hitter this year.

Corbett led the Valley League in total kills for the 2009 season.

Klauda noted that the opposing coaches were familiar with Corbett even though his name wasn’t immediately recognizable.

“They know what number he was,” Klauda said.

Corbett will likely continue his volleyball career at Mesa College or Palomar College.

“Because of what they’ve done over the past three years, everyone still knows what incredibly good players they were,” Klauda said of the all-division selections. “It speaks volumes about what they’ve done to establish Ramona in the San Diego volleyball community.”
