“Spurs, Spokes and Sneakers Fundraiser,” Ramona Trails Association’s (RTA) largest annual event, offers the public the opportunity to enjoy and explore the beautiful and private Happy Ysabel Ranch near Mesa Grande, approximately 10 miles east of Ramona.

Hikers, bikers, and equestrians are welcome to the happening, slated for Saturday, June 27. Gates open at 8:30 a.m.

Varied terrain is available, suited to all levels of experience. Those participating should bring water and comfortable hiking shoes.

Past Spurs, Spokes and Sneakers locations have included the historic Fenton and Monte Vista ranches, so it’s a treat to share this beautiful ranch with the public.

Local wine tasting sponsored by Country Cellars will begin at 11, and everyone is sure to enjoy the Santa Maria Barbecue around noon, Opportunity drawings and a silent auction will feature many area businesses and wineries.

RTA members organizing the day ask that, if possible, people pre-register for this event so they can plan in advance. Walk-ups are welcome, and those interested in just coming to lunch are welcome, at a reduced rate.

At the ranch, visitors will be treated to an open vista, with oak trees, meandering streams, wildflowers, and distant views of Palomar and Volcan mountains, which are covered with pine, fir and oak, rising 6,500 feet. This year RTA has added the opportunity to camp. A limited number of on-site, primitive camping will be available, offering the opportunity for further exploration on Sunday. This is a self-contained camping opportunity. Corrals are not available.

The silent auction will include hotel packages, local wines, horse-related tack, and many other packages.

RTA offers the opportunity to sponsor a table for $25, providing a space for sponsors to display their materials and information, and encourages the support of local businesses.

RTA works to identify, preserve and protect the trails and pathways, creating opportunities for the enjoyment of San Diego County.

A nonprofit service group, RTA meets the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Ramona Community Center. Annual membership is $25 per family, and helps fund trail efforts.

Those wishing to register for Spurs, Spokes and Sneakers may visit www.ramonatrails.org or pick up a flyer in a local store.
