Ramona tennis ends at tournament

Ramona tennis team’s season ended at the Valley League Individual Tournament at Kit Carson Park.

Individual tournament medalists, those who reached the semi-finals, advanced to the CIF Individual Tournament.

Westview High School dominated both the singles and doubles tourneys in their first season in the Valley League. The Wolverines took all four medals in singles action and took the first three medals in doubles action.

The one Bulldog who entered the Valley League Tournament in singles play, Cameron Ruland, won his first round match by beating Dallas Acab of Oceanside High School in straight sets 6-1 and 6-1. Cameron then lost the first set in the best of three sets format to Jeff Pansa 6-2. Ruland bounced back in the second set and won 6-3. He lost the final set 6-4.

In doubles action the Bulldogs entered five teams in the 32-team bracket.

In first round action, two teams advanced. Alejandro Cervantes and Garrett Flynn beat Gonzales and Mayorca in straight sets 6- and 6-2. John Shupe and Tyler Mcdonald also won in straight sets 6-0 and 6-2.

Chris Bowersox and Travis Stout fell to Phan and Panlasigui for Mt. Carmel 7-6, 3-6 and 3-6. Josh Leiber and John Randol lost to Hand and Smith of Mt. Carmel 4-6, 6-4 and 7-5. Derek Streeter and Tyler Davidson fell to Hand and Frey of Mt. Carmel in straight sets 4-6 and 3-6.

Both Ramon doubles teams were eliminated in the second round. Cervantes and Flynn lost to Hand and Smith of the Mount 7-5 and 6-2. Shupe and McDonald dropped a decision to Garcia and Stridsberg of Valley Center 1-6 and 3-6.
