Camel racing, belly dancing add punch to Intermountain benefit

The Ramona Hot Spots, hard at work on their upcoming fundraiser, announced this week that Stone Brewing Co. of Escondido will be serving ale at the “Rockin’ the Kasbah” on Saturday, July 18, at Flying T Ranch off Highway 78.

Stone Brewing Co. is a brewery known for its “big character” beer, said Nancy Shultz, in charge of publicity for Rockin’ the Kasbah, a benefit for the Intermountain Fire & Rescue Department. The Ramona Hot Spots, aka the Intermountain Fire & Rescue Auxiliary, have a reputation for putting a lively twist on an annual fundraiser.

Anticipation has been growing for the event, she said, and sponsors are signing up to support the department.

“We are also continuing to receive great auction items,” said Shultz. “Some items will be offered in a live auction while others will be available in opportunity baskets. We are having the 50/50 raffle.Last year’s winner won over $700.

Auction items so far include: a signed Shawn Merriman football, San Diego Chargers tickets, San Diego Casino packages, two airline tickets for Southwest airlines, restaurant gift certificates, plus much more.

Tickets may also be purchased at the Ramona Chamber of Commerce office at 960 Main St.

Admission includes dinner prepared by John Little Catering, camel racing by Oasis Dairy Camel Farm, live entertainment and belly dancing.

All proceeds will be used solely for daily operating expenses for the Intermountain Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department.

“Remember, if you travel on Highway 78 and you’re involved in an accident, then Intermountain will be the first to respond,” organizers said. “We all need each other.”
