Seven RHS grads chosen for all-star game
Ramona High School’s football staff has been chosen to coach the 2009 Alex Spanos All Star Football Classic.
It is the third time in the 19-year history of the classic that the Bulldog staff has been chosen to coach the North Team. Mel Galli and Bill Clark both coached the North in previous years.
The Bulldog staff coached the offense in the 2006 Classic, but Ron Hamamoto of Rancho Bernardo was the head coach. This is the first year Damon Baldwin’s tenure that the Dawg staff will call the shots. Baldwin is RHS athletic director and head football coach.
The 2009 classic will be played at Partick Henry High School on Friday, July 10, at 7 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the gate.
Baldwin will call the offense for the North. Mike Johnson is the offensive line coach. Jerry Patenaude is the quarterback coach. Jason Matthews is coaching the wide receivers. Mike Ernst is the assistant head coach. Rheynard Morgan is in charge of film, scouting and equipment.
Coach Ed Munyer is calling the defense. Bill Tamburrino is the linebacker coach. Marc Boykins is the defensive back coach. Jim Piva, Bob Schulty and Eddie Brisendine are also assisting with the defense.
All are volunteering to coach.
Gary Jolk and Brad Elrod from Rancho Bernardo High School and Tim Medlock from Westview High School are also on the coaching staff.
Seven Bulldog graduates have been chosen to play in the game. Ian Hunt will play quarterback. Mikey Head is a wide receiver. Jacob Landmark and Brett Germain are offensive linemen. Tanner Hix is a linebacker. Dean Faddis is a defensive back and Chucky Delacruz is on the defensive line. All will see plenty of action.
“Every player is an all-star, and every player will see plenty of action,” said Baldwin.
The North Team consists of players from the North County Conference and private schools in the North County. The South team gets players from the South Bay, the Grossmont Conference, the City Conference and all of the private schools in San Diego except those in the North County.
The Alex Spanos All Star Football Classic is the longest-running all-star football game in the state of California.
