Fourth-graders share water theme

Once a year, Ramona Municipal Water District invites fourth-graders in the community to participate in a drawing contest.

The theme this year was “Water is Life,” giving students the opportunity to convey how water affects their life, ways to conserve water, how water has been used throughout history or imaginative new ways to recycle water for future use.

Water district employees judged the entries on best design illustrating these themes. Two of the top prize winners were students in Jan Groh’s class at James Dukes Elementary School: Benjamin Rivera is the First Place winner and Lucas Latero is the Second Place winner.

Third Place goes to Sage Cornelius, a student in Cathy Harrington’s class.

“Congratulations to these fine students,” said Patty Bevers, the district’s water resources specialist.

Benjamin’s drawing will be a featured month in the North County Water Agencies 2010 Water Awareness Calendar. Lucas’ drawing and Sage’s drawing also will be included in the calendar.

The calendars will be available at the district office at 105 Earlham St. at the end of the year.

In addition to having their drawings included in the 2010 calendar, each winner received a bag full of all types of water-related gifts, toys and educational items.

“RMWD encourages everyone to conserve water, no matter what your age,” said Bevers.
