Wonder Arts

—Fine arts specifically for youth ages 5 to 12

Preschool Storytime:

A fun story hour with crafts on Wednesdays (July 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29) at 11 a.m. First Wednesday of the month is bilingual.

Grandparents and Books:

Join us for that warm childhood treat of having a grandparent read aloud from a children’s favorite book on Thursdays at 11 a.m.

Bilingual Spanish/English Storytime:

Enjoy stories, songs and crafts in English and Spanish on Tuesdays (July 7, 14, 21 and 28) at 6:30 p.m.

Sparkles the Clown:

Come meet Sparkles the Clown on Thursday, July 9. He will delight you with antics, balloons and face painting.

Storytime with Harlynne Geissler:

Summer reading wrap-up with enthralling tales on Thursday, July 30, at 1 p.m.

All Ages

Clay Sculpture:

Create original pieces of art with librarian artist and sculptress, Margo Smart, on Tuesday, July 14, at 3 p.m.

Pacific Animal Productions:

Get to know a variety of critters; some will visit this program on Thursday, July 16, at 1 p.m.

Drawing in Pastels:

Margo Smart, North County children’s librarian, will show you these techniques on Wednesday, July 22, at 10 a.m.

Mad Science:

Wacky experiments will amaze and teach basic scientific principles on Thursday, July 23, at 1 p.m.

Print Making:

Learn the decorative art of block printing on Wednesday, July 29, at 10 a.m.

Teens

Teen Mobiles:

Youth Librarian Margo Smart teaches teens the techniques of wire sculpture to create original mobiles on Wednesday, July 1, at 3 p.m.

Manga for Teens:

Artist Lisa Davis DeMattei will instruct teens in drawing in the popular Manga style of cartooning on Friday, July 24, at 2 p.m.

Wii Gaming:

During Teen Advisory Group (TAG) meetings on Saturdays, July 11 and 25, at 10 a.m.

Adults

Adult Literacy Tutoring (ESL):

Instructions in reading and writing in English. Call 738-2434 for an appointment.

• Saturdays at 12:30 p.m.

Family Crafts:

Join the weekly craft “make and take” session. Fun for everyone in the family on Fridays (July 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31) from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Sketching:

Basic techniques with artist Salvadore Torres in sketching two live owls (Barn and Screech) from Sky Hunters on Tuesday, July 7, at 2 p.m.

Clay Sculpture:

Basic techniques to create original pieces of art on Tuesday, July 28, at 3 p.m.

Bilingual Spanish Computer Helpers:

Computer instruction in Spanish for beginners on Thursdays at 6 p.m. Call 738-2434 for an appointment.

Friends of the Ramona Library

Book Sale on Saturday, July 18, in the Community Room from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. offering those gently used books donated by generous Ramonans. Come browse through the fiction, and non-fiction for your reading delights, and find reference books, how-to books, beautiful children’s books, cookbooks, all specially priced at $1 for hardbacks and 25 cents for paperbacks, and videos and CDs. The Collector’s Table offers special interest titled books and first editions at $5 and up. Be sure to see the artist’s private collection, recently donated to the Friends, each individually priced. All proceeds benefit our library programs.

The library will be closed on Saturday, July 4, in celebration of Independence Day.

Ramona Library is in the San Diego County Complex at 1406 Montecito Road (entry off 16th Street). The library is open at 9:30 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays until 6 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays until 8 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays until 5 p.m.
