Summer basketball team has busy two weeks

Lady Bulldog summer basketball team members stayed busy the first two weeks of the season. They beat Carlsbad 33-20 the first week and then lost to La Costa Canyon 52-42.

Paige Conroy led the team in scoring in the Carlsbad win with 11 points. One bucket was from three-point land. Tessa Balcom (5), Kellie Schoepp (4), Felisha Stead (5), Kayla Lawler (3) and RaeAnn VanTol (5) also scored in the victory.

Ten Ramona High players scored in the La Costa Canyon loss. Christi Flores and Felisha Stead both scored 7 points. Shoepp and VanTol score 6 points apiece. Morgan Gross scored 5 points. Tori Sheppard, Balcom, Kim Whelehon and Lawler also scored for the Lady Dawgs.

The Lady Dawgs traveled to Palm Springs for a tournament and some team bonding. The competition was stiff and Ramona went 1-3 in the tourney.

In game one, Ramona dropped a 41-29 decision to Saint Monica High School. Schoepp led all scorers with 14 points. She also pulled down six rebounds to lead the team in that category.

Gross and Sheppard had four rebounds each.

Ramona lost to the Orange County Wildcats 39-30 in game two. Gross led the team in scoring and rebounding, scoring 7 points and grabbing seven rebounds.

Ramona beat Crenshaw of Los Angeles 46-16 in game three. Schoep and Conroy shared the scoring honors with 9 points apiece. Schoepp also led both teams with seven rebounds. Lawler grabbed five boards and scored 6 points.

The Lady Dawgs lost to Horizon of San Diego 38-30 in their final game of the tourney. Schoepp led Ramona with 12 points. Gross led all rebounders with nine boards.

Schoepp was named to the All Tournament Team.
