Patriots overpower Bulldog kickers

Ramona High School’s boys soccer team fell 0-3 in Valley League play with a Jan. 13 home loss to Orange Glen.

The Patriots scored twice in each half.

“Very good team,” Coach Michael Jordan said of Orange Glen.

Orange Glen won the 2006-07 CIF San Diego Section championship and reached the semifinals last year.

“We knew that was up against us, and we knew that they would be deep,” Jordan said.

In the end that depth wore down the Bulldogs, but Ramona was competitive early in the match.

“They did well,” said Jordan. “For the first 20 minutes, it was back and forth,” Jordan said. “The first 20 minutes I was really proud of them.”

Two of Ramona’s senior captains have not played since being injured in the Bulldogs’ league opener Jan. 6 at Mount Carmel.

Matt Legacy underwent an MRI on Jan. 16, and Johnny Sorenson has a sprained ankle. The injuries forced Jordan to use Trevor Adelman as the sweeper with Walker Poortinga and Jesse Cappadocia as outside defenders.

Adelman is Ramona’s third senior captain, and he was hurt late in the first half against Orange Glen. He tried to continue to play, but after the Patriots took a 3-0 lead in the second half Jordan called for a substitution.

“He shook me off at first,” Jordan said. “He wanted to stay in there for his team.”

Adelman, however, understood that long-term health took precedence. Shane Damon made his debut at the sweeper position after Adelman was rested.

The 4-0 loss also gave Ramona a 3-10-1 overall record.

“Hopefully the wins will come,” Jordan said. “I just need to be patient.”
