“Graffiti and Gang Awareness: Strategies for Our Community” is the title of a community meeting that will be held in the Ramona Community Center, 434 Aqua Lane, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27.

The meeting, sponsored by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, will feature sheriff’s Cpl. Rhonda Fortson from the Poway Community Oriented Policing Problem Solving (Copps) Unit and Deputy Tom Seiver with the sheriff’s Ramona Substation.

What is a gang? Why do young people join gangs? and What is the difference between tagging and graffiti? will be among topics addressed. Others will include How do I read graffiti? How does a problem of gangs affect our community? and What are some strategies that we can use to stop this?

The public is invited to find the answers to these and other questions Ramonans may have about gangs.

“What you don’t know can hurt you, your children and your community,” reads a flyer announcing the meeting. “Join us and become aware.”

The presentation is geared toward an adult audience.
