Soccer girls outmatched by Valley Center Jaguar kickers

The good news for participants and fans of Ramona High School’s girls soccer team is that the Bulldogs avoided a shutout loss Feb. 12 at Valley Center.

The bad news is that the Jaguars scored four of the game’s five goals.

Although the 4-1 loss snapped Ramona’s two-game winning streak, the Bulldogs scored for the third consecutive game after being shut out in four of the previous five matches.

“The girls have played really well,” said Coach George Garcia. “We have a pretty hard league.”

Valley Center scored the game’s initial goal approximately 10 minutes into the first half. The Bulldogs threatened to erase that lead over the next 20 minutes.

“It went back and forth,” Garcia said.

Valley Center took a 2-0 lead approximately 30 minutes into the half and scored the game’s third goal in the first minute of the second half. Approximately 25 minutes into the second half, Ramona’s Alexa Hogan scored her first varsity goal.

“She just dribbled the ball for a while,” Garcia said.

Hogan then passed to Silvia Villegas, whose shot was deflected by the Jaguar goalkeeper.

“It was bouncing around in the box,” Garcia said.

Hogan was in position for the rebound.

“She just hit it in,” Garcia said.

Valley Center scored the game’s final goal late in the second half.

“The girls played hard,” Garcia said of his team. “They passed the ball. The played pretty good.”

The loss gave Ramona a Valley League record of 3-7 and an overall season record of 4-13-1.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to close out the regular season this evening at home against San Marcos.
