CINCH meeting ends with museum tour
About 25 people from throughout North County gathered at the Guy B. Woodward Museum in Ramona for the quarterly meeting of the Combined Interpreters of North County History (CINCH).
“We hosted the meeting so they could get a behind-the-scenes look at the Guy B. Woodward Museum,” said Judy Nachazel, president of the Ramona Pioneer Historical Society that operates the museum at 645 Main St. “They were totally impressed with our museum and how we’re managed.”
CINCH membership includes historical societies, libraries, interpretive centers, gem and mineral societies, and other North County organizations from the ocean to the mountains. Among communities represented at the get-together in Ramona last week were Encinitas, Valley Center, Fallbrook, San Pasqual, Poway and the county library system.
“We’re trying to connect the dots between all these organizations in North County that have an interest in preserving the history, culture and trails of the area,” said Nachazel.
Woodward gave an overview of the museum collection and how everything in the museum was acquired and organized. Attendees then took a tour of the museum.
The Guy B. Woodward Museum is a complex of historical buildings that includes the Verlaque House, wagons, a cowboy bunkhouse, a ranch blacksmith shop and tack room, women’s clothing and accessories from 1700 to 1800, antique exhibits and artifacts. The Verlaque House, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991, is said to be the only remaining Western adobe home of French provincial design.
The Casey Tibbs Memorial Exhibit at the museum is dedicated to Tibbs, a world-champion professional rodeo rider who lived in Ramona until his death on Jan. 28, 1990. The Bancroft Memorial Rose Garden is on the grounds. Rare documents, historical exhibits, books, photographs, and a research library are part of the complex.
The museum is open Thursdays through Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. and by appointment. The office is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and may be contacted for more information at 789-7644.
