Early voters turned out in record numbers to cast their ballots in last November’s presidential election, prompting San Diego County Registrar of Voters Deborah Seiler to encourage the public to apply to vote by mail in the next election.
In future elections, voters can fill out their ballots in the comfort of their own homes instead of standing in line by applying to vote by mail, she said.
“We expect Gov. Schwarzenegger and state lawmakers to call a special election some time during the next few months, so it is a good time to update your registration,” said Seiler.
“Getting your ballot by mail is convenient and allows you to take your time when filling out the ballot.”
To apply for a mail ballot, download an application from the Registrar of Voters’ Web site at www.sdvote.com or contact the registrar’s office at 858-565-5800.
In addition, all residents can make sure they are able to vote in the next election by registering to vote.
Residents need to complete a registration form if they are not registered, have recently moved or changed their name. They may get forms and check their registration status at www.sdvote.com.
Registration forms are also at the registrar’s office, U.S. post offices, public libraries and Department of Motor Vehicles offices.
