Girls basketball to host Mt. Carmel

Ramona’s Lady Bulldogs finished non-league action in the Kiwanis Tournament and will go into Valley League action with a 7-8 record when they host Mt. Carmel in the Dawg House on Jan. 6.

The Lady Bulldogs made a fourth quarter run at Rancho Bernardo but came up 4 points short. RB beat Ramona 49-45.

The Broncos got off to a 16-7 first quarter lead and built their lead to 34-21 at intermission. Both teams were cold in the third period and RB led 41-25 going into the final eight minutes of the game. Ramona got hot and outscored RB 20-8 in the final period.

Kellie Schoepp led the ladies from the Valley of the Sun in scoring with 17 points. Schoepp also led the team in rebounds with eight and assists with five.

Paige Conroy and Tessa Balcom each scored 8 points and both hit two 3-point shots. Conroy grabbed four boards.

RaeAnne Van Tol scored 4 points and hauled down four rebounds. Courtney Robinson scored 6 points. Tori Sheppard and Christie Flores scored 2 points apiece.

Ramona finished the Kiwanis Tournament with a come-from-behind victory over Mira Mesa High School as the Lady Dawgs outscored the Marauders 3-2 in overtime to win 39-38.

Ramona trailed 15-14 at half and was down 27-24 after three periods. The Lady Dawgs rallied to outscore Mira Mesa 12-9 in the fourth quarter to force the game to OT.

Schoepp led the Lady Dawgs in scoring with 12 points and registered a double-double by hauling down 12 rebounds.

Balcom scored 9 points and hit two 3-pointers. Stead scored 6 points on two 3-point shots. Flores scored 3 points and grabbed six rebounds. Van Tol (4), Conroy (3) and Jessica Beam (2) also scored in the victory.
