The Ramona Bulldogs came from behind to win their first dual match of the season with a 38-30 victory over the Mira Mesa Marauders.
“It is always great to have a home match in the Dawg House,” said Ramona’s wrestling coach, Steve Koch. “We had a big crowd and they really got into it when we made our comeback. Our program appreciates their support. We have several new athletes in the program and several wrestlers are moving up weights, so this was a big night for us.”
The match started with the 125-pound weight class. Ramona’s Jake Ohnysty lost to Josh Edralin 4-2. Brock Corbett (130) lost by fall to Carl D’Soriano and the Dawgs trailed 9-0.
Spaso Ilich (135) got the Dawgs back into the match by recording the fastest pin of the evening, pinning Kyle Reed in 59 seconds to make the score 9-6. Ricky Martinez (140) lost by fall and Marco Herrera (145) lost by decision, and Ramona trailed 18-6.
The Dawgs then won six of their next seven bouts to ensure the win.

Marshal Thrasher (215) won by major decision over Ricardo Joya and the Dawgs had a 32-18 lead.
Heavyweight Jacob Kaliskis lost by fall and Mira Mesa had a mathematical chance for a victory. Zach Lane won by forfeit in the 103-pound bout and that put the match out of reach. Lorenzo Lizotte (112) lost by fall and Kevin Cole (119) dropped a major decision to end the match.
The junior varsity beat Mira Mesa 39-37. Kirk Kaliszewski (145), Austin Stoody (160), Thomas Pacheco (171), Andy Burns (189) and Jeffrey Hughes recorded pins in the win. Andrew Lisowski (215) and Cody Bauman (Hwy) won decisions in the match.
