Ramona High has new track coach

Steve Albanese is the new head track and field coach at Ramona High School, Ramona High School Athletic Director Damon Baldwin announced.

Albanese replaces Bob Verhoest, who resigned after taking the program to new heights, said Baldwin.

“Steve has done a wonderful job with our cross country program in one year,” said Baldwin. “He is respected and liked by our student-athletes and our parents. He brings energy and passion to the sport. I am looking forward to him continuing the great track program that Bob Verhoest has built.”

Two years ago, Ramona High’s varsity boys were CIF champions and last year they were runner-up to Steele Canyon in CIF.

“Steve has some exciting ideas and I believe the athletes will like his approach to the sport,” said Baldwin.

Albanese is a substitute teacher for the Ramona school district.
