7 seniors back for basketball

Coach Ken Scheib announced the 2009-2010 varsity basketball team on Meet the Bulldogs Night. The Dawgs have eight returning lettermen from last year’s squad that finished the season with a 15-13 record and advanced to the CIF playoffs.

The 2009-10 Dawgs have seven seniors. Andrew Alcaraz is back for his fourth varsity campaign. Last season Alcaraz averaged 12 points per game and hit 27 shots from beyond the three point arch. The 5’11 forward also had 83 assists and 124 rebounds.

Zach Windes is a returning 6’1 guard. Windes averaged 4.5 points a game with 32 three point goals. He had 21 assists and 59 rebounds last season.

Guard Keith Scheib is back for his fourth varsity campaign. Scheib averaged 4.4 points a game with 22 three pointers. Scheib had 77 assists and 70 rebounds last season.

Josh Lieber is a 5’8 guard who averaged 4.5 points and hit 33 three pointers. He had 33 assists and 50 rebounds.

Quintin Wright is a 6’4 forward returning from last seasons team. He had one assist and six rebounds last season.

Adam Watson and Jake Wolf are new comers to the varsity Watson is a 6’3 forward. Wolf is a 6’4 forward.

There are three juniors on the squad. Jared Engler started last season and the 6’3 forward averaged 6.2 points and hit 35 three pointers. He grabbed 104 rebounds and had 26 assists.

Sean Jennings and Sean Leahy are new to the squad. Jennings is a 6’ guard and Leahy is a 6’3 forward.

Four sophomores are on the roster. Kwayde Miller, 6’8 center, and Garlan Marshall, 6’2, earned letters last season. Miller averaged 2.0 points a game and grabbed 37 rebounds. Marshall averaged 1.3 points a game and hit 18 three pointers. He had three assists and nine rebounds.

Chris Durham, a 6’3 forward, and Jordan Wylie, a 5’8 guard, are new to the squad.

Dan Marshall will be assisting Scheib this season. Marshall was successful as the girls’ basketball team and is moving over to be Scheib’s bench coach.

“With Dan Marshall on board and his focus on detail, we will look to improve our overall game and challenge for the league title,” said Scheig. “We have eight returning lettermen and they will provide leadership.”

The Bulldogs have one home game before league play begins in January. The Dawgs will host Mar Vista High School in the Dawg House on Dec. 11.
