The Ramona Intra Girls Under 13 soccer team played in the Rotary Cup Soccer Tournament this past weekend, winning Saturday’s games 3-1 over Cardiff and 3-1 over La Jolla.

The team then tied Sunday morning’s game 2-2 against La Costa, qualifying the girls first for the finals. They defeated La Costa 2-0 in the championship game, making the Ramona GU13 players the Rotary Cup 2009 champs.

“The girls played strong all weekend with solid ball control and good team work,” said Coach Robert Stehlik. “They finished runners-up in the San Diego Open a couple weeks ago, so winning this one felt nice for everyone involved with the team.

The girls are working hard and it shows, their coaches said. They recently finished their Summer Camp in which they practiced Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. till noon and played four games on the weekend.

“They are a very dedicated team,” said Stehlik. “They work well together and all the coaches and parents are very proud of them.”
