Tennis team wins in scorching heat

The Bulldog tennis team played well in beating Oceanside and losing a tie-breaker to Mt. Carmel in Valley League action.

The Dawgs are 4-9 on the year and 2-7 in league.

Ramona beat Oceanside at Riviera Oaks Resort 17-1 on a day when the temperature on the courts was over 100 degrees.

Ramona’s doubles teams won all nine team points.

Josh Leiber and John Randol posted scores of 6-2, 6-0 and 6-0. Derek Streeter and Tyler Davidson contributed scores of 6-4, 6-1 and 6-0.

John Shupe and Tyler McDonald also dominated their opponents by recording scores of 6-2, 6-1 and 6-1.

The Dawgs went 8-1 in singles action. Cameron Ruland anchored the number one spot with scores of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0. Alejandro Cervantes went 7-5, 6-0 and 6-0. Garrett Flynn went 5-7, 6-2 and 6-0.

Ramona tied Mt. Carmel in sets 9-9 but lost the match on the tie-breaker. The Mount won 82 games and the Dawgs won 80 matches.

In singles action, Ruland went 6-7 (6-8), 6-0 and 4-6. Cervantes went 2-6, 2-6 and 0-6. Flynn posted scores of 2-6, 6-4 and 0-6.

The doubles teams won seven of the teams sets. The number one doubles team of Leiber and and Randol took three matches with scores of 6-2, 6-0 and 6-4. Streeter and Davidson had to play two tie-breakers while posting scores of 6-7 (5-7), 6-3 and 7-6 (7-3). Shupe and McDonald won two sets by going 6-1, 7-6 (7-5), and 2-6.
