Softball team wins on road

Ramona picked up a Valley League win at Valley Center High School and lost at home to Westview High School.

The Lady Dawgs are now 6-9 on the year and 2-3 in league play. They will compete for a spot in the playoffs as the season winds down.

At the beginning of the season, Ally Harvey was the number five pitcher on the varsity depth chart. Last week she recorded her first complete game shutout by beating Valley Center 5-0 on the road.

The frosh hurler went the distance and had a no-hitter through five innings. She gave up an infield single in the sixth inning and a second hit in the seventh. Harvey struck out seven.

Courtney Fick provided the Lady Bulldogs with all of the runs that they would need with a three-run home run in the top of the first inning. It was Fick’s third round-tripper of the season.

Allei Ferguson, Stephanie Kiesel and Lexi Slater all had 2-for-4 outings. Kiesel contributed a double. Ashley Brean and KK Melgoza both went 1-for-3. Brean drove in a run. Tory Roberts was 1-2 with an RBI.

Ramona lost on its home diamond 15-2 to Westview High School. The Dawgs committed five errors.

Kellsie Domnitz took the loss. She went the first three and one-third innings. She gave up seven runs on seven hits. She struck out two and walked seven.

Marti Sanchez saw her first action of the year in her first game off the disabled list. She went one and two-thirds innings and gave up eight runs on six hits.
