Bulldog Expo introduces incoming freshman, parents to life at Ramona High

Ramona High School will host its 7th annual Bulldog Expo on April 23 in the Performing Arts Wing.

The festivities of welcome will kick off at 6:30 p.m. with an introduction to RHS athletics by Athletic Director Damon Baldwin. Next, the counseling staff will give a short overview detailing academic requirements and graduation pathways. Afterward, prospective students and their parents are welcome to browse the variety of booths on display in the courtyard.

Vice Principal Dr. Kathryn Gunderson is looking forward to the class of 2013. She is even more excited because her son will be entering Ramona High in the fall, joining her daughter, who will be a junior. “I know they will bring wonderful energy and enthusiasm to both their learning and our school spirit. My son, Alex, is in this group, so I’ve watched a lot of these kiddos grow up!” she said.

Principal Tony Newman is also getting ready for the next generation of freshman. Already, he has been to Olive Peirce Middle School on several occasions to start welcoming the 8th grade class and to let them know just how much they have to look forward to.

“I know I say this a lot, but it’s just a great time to be a Bulldog,” said Newman. “Our new students have even more to look forward to. We’ve had such an impressive year and the momentum is huge. It just gets all of us excited for what is to come.”

Both Gunderson and Newman know that it can be overwhelming to enter a new school and that’s why attending the expo is highly important.

“Students will receive their registration materials on April 20, and generally have many questions. So, this is a chance for us to answer them and ease that transition,” said Newman.

There will be textbooks on display from every department as well as samples of student work. In the past there have been choir performances, videos, and teachers and coaches on hand to answer any questions.

“[It is] an opportunity to ask questions, learn about opportunities so students and their families are clear about how to register for high school, and feel good about their course choices,” said Gunderson. “Families will also have the opportunity to make an appointment to meet

individually with a counselor, should they choose to do so.”
