Ramona’s Bulldog golf team took fourth place in the Pahr Golf Invitational hosted by La Costa Canyon High School.

“The tourney was played as three separate events at the same time,” said Coach Jerry Patenaude. “Whole team was played with six golfers but only the top five scores counted. The second event was the three-man team play. Three play and all three scores count. The third event was individual play.”

At the end of the first day of the two-day event, Ramona’s six-man team was in third place and eventually took fourth place in the prestigious tourney. The top three teams were Division I powers LCC and Torrey Pines and Southern Section power Murrieta Valley.

The six-man team was Brian Moberg (70-74), Drew Massey (74-79), Christian Rajcic (75-92), Johnny Lafata (81-78), Josh Haynes (77-74) and Garrett Arnold (83-85). Moberg, Massey and Haynes were the three-man team.

Moberg took 11th place in the individual tourney.

Ramona upset undefeated St. Augustine (10-0) at the friendly confines of San Vicente Resort. The Dawgs beat the Saints 193-195. How friendly are the confines at San Vicente? The Dawgs have a 3-1/2 year win streak going there.

Moberg and Massey both fired a one over 37 to share medalist honors. Hayens shot an impressive 38.

Freshman Joe Fortunato played his first varsity match and impressed Coach Patenaude with a 39. Lafata and Rajcic both contributed 42 in the big win.

“We have depth and as we enter league play we are playing solid golf,” said Patenaude. “We are ready for the Valley League.”
