Heroin possession nets jail for 2 Ramona men

Two Ramona men who pleaded guilty to possession of heroin for sale have both been sentenced to one-year terms in county jail.

Travis Jeffrey Blackmon, 19, must serve at least 120 days, but will be allowed an early release from jail if a bed becomes vacant in a residential drug rehabilitation program, said District Attorney spokesman Paul Levikow on March 27. Blackmon was placed on three years probation by El Cajon Superior Court Judge Charles Ervin.

Dean Letzring, 21, is serving his term at a jail in the South Bay and was also placed on three years probation by Ervin. His projected release date is Oct. 9, according to the sheriff’s department.

Blackmon was supposed to be sentenced on Feb. 24, but he didn’t show up in court. He was arrested on March 10 and remains in the George Bailey Detention Facility.

The pair were among five men and one juvenile arrested by sheriff’s deputies in Ramona on Dec. 8 and 9, 2008, after heroin, cocaine and prescription medications were seized. The three other men also pleaded guilty and all were allowed to enter drug treatment programs on terms of three years probation.
