Gallery holds art reception April 4

A reception for English-born artist Jill Spurgin will be held in the Olde Ramona Hotel Gallery from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 4.

Spurgin’s artwork is featured this month in the gallery. Nature is an important part of her design process as she incorporates southern California’s abundant natural featues such as grasses, seed and leaves into her embroidered pieces.

Her art includes different media from painting on silk and batik to collage and painting on the bark of paper birch trees. She studied at Goldsmith’s Art School in London and has taught children and adults in England and the United States.
