Ramona Bulldogs have a much-needed bye week after the midway mark in Valley League action.

“The bye week came at a perfect time in our schedule,” said Coach Damon Baldwin. “We have some players that have some minor injuries, and the week gives them time to go through rehab and heal up.

“We are also coming to the most demanding three games of our schedule. We play three of the top quarterbacks in the North County and the section and the top three teams in our league. The next three weeks will decide where we are seeded in the playoffs.

“The Valley Center game is very important. They are a defending CIF champion and a win over them will really help our seeding.”

Valley Center features quarterback Tyler Bernard. Bernard is 87-143 with 1,370 yards and 14 touchdowns. His favorite target is wide receiver James Jackson. Jackson has 29 catches for 600 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Bernard will attend Arizona State University next fall on a baseball scholarship. Jackson can choose his college, as he is one of the most recruited receivers in the state.

The Jaguars will visit the Dawg Pound Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Valley Center has one loss. That came to Westview, Ramona’s next opponent.

Westview has one loss. That came to Oceanside, the defending state and CIF champion, Ramona’s final opponent of the regular season.

The Ramona junior varsity is also undefeated in Valley League action and will play Valley Center Friday at 4:30.

The frosh team will travel to Valley Center Thursday for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
